Jewish Family and Child Services wanted something special for their Annual Report. As is often the case for the social services sector organization, the sensitive nature of JF&CS’s authentic client stories precluded using real photos. Rather than go the usual stock photography route, JF&CS requested illustrations – a thrilling yet challenging proposition. Although once upon a time I made a living as an illustrator, my paint dried up in its tubes long ago. In 2015, a digital illustration approach felt right. I set to work, gradually regaining my artistic chops. Beyond the story illustrations, I digitally painted portraits of the Board Chair and Executive Director to maintain the publication’s artistic vibe. The result conveys sensitivity and originality in equal measure, paying tribute to an amazing organization and all the vital good work they do.
