Bird’s Eye View of See You Around

In 2022, with Pandemic lockdowns receding, Downsview Park put out a public call for Artists: the Wind Rose Public Art Competition. Having spent COVID lockdowns walking my dog in this very park, I felt we were all craving human connection. My installation concept, “See You Around” consisted of asking random park-goers what they loved about this beautiful urban oasis and if I could include a photo of them in an art installation. My proposal was to print these photos on fabric to stretch between the steel “frames” forming a circle on the summit of “The Mound”, Toronto’s highest (and windiest!) point. Success! I was THRILLED to be as one of three artists selected for this honour. As the installation was scheduled for a bone-chilling February day I was grateful for the help of Alex and his crew from Anexworks in getting everything set up – and they even surprised me with an AMAZING drone shot bird’s eye-view of my installation!
